MISSISSIPPI NATIVE
Jennifer is a native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and graduated from Harrison Central High School. She then attended MGCCC and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Major in English and a Minor in Marketing. After college, Jennifer became a teacher in the Harrison County School District and taught English for two (2) years at d’Iberville High School and for one (1) year at Harrison Central High School.
Jennifer attended law school at the University of Mississippi School of Law. While in law school, she was Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the Mississippi Law Journal and received five (5) American Jurisprudence awards for the highest achievement in classes. She won the school’s Moot Court Oral Advocacy Competition and represented Ole Miss on its National Moot Court Competition Team. She graduated from law school with honors and was awarded membership in Phi Kappa Phi.
Following graduation from law school, Jennifer completed a prestigious clerkship with the Honorable E. Grady Jolly, United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. After completing her clerkship, Jennifer started her legal career in Mississippi and has, at all times, represented individuals who were injured due to the fault of others. She worked with some of the best attorneys in the state and served as trial counsel in numerous trials that resulted in 7-figure verdicts in state and federal courts in Mississippi. She has also been responsible for countless settlements for injured clients. In addition, she is an accomplished appellate attorney and has argued before the en banc Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
CALIFORNIA DREAMING
Following Hurricane Katrina, Jennifer moved to Los Angeles and became licensed to practice law in California. In L.A., she worked with one of Southern California’s preeminent trial firms for 14 years and eventually became Managing Attorney for the firm. While in L.A., she continued her record of success and obtained 7-figure settlements on a regular basis, as well as two 8-figure settlements, and she was trial counsel in numerous cases. Since 2014, Jennifer has been selected as a Southern California “SuperLawyer,” an honor awarded to less than 5% of the attorneys in Southern California. She also became a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. In addition, she was named a National Trial Lawyers “Top 100.”
RETURNING HOME
In 2021, Jennifer returned home to Mississippi and established her own boutique law firm, JPBurkes Law. She is a member of the Mississippi Association for Justice and is currently serving as Secretary of the Women’s Caucus. She is a member of the Society of Women Trial Lawyers, and this year she was also recognized as an “Elite Lawyer.”
Jennifer is excited to offer quality legal representation to those who have suffered a loss due to someone else’s negligence. She accepts a limited number of cases so she can ensure that all clients receive the individualized care and attention they deserve and that their cases need.
